Hi, my name is John and I have been both mold testing and mold remediating mold issues for about 12 years. Here are a few tips I have learned along the way.
Carpeting generally holds into minute particles including mold spores. If you can eliminate carpeting and go for perhaps area rugs that can be cleaned every so often.
A typically overlooked area within a home that tends to accumulate mold spores are the horizontal surfaces and ledges such as door frames, window trim and tops of cabinets. In one instance we bettered the air quality by 60% just by thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting those areas.
Another often overlooked area of concern is HVAC units. Improperly fitted filters or low quality filters contribute to poor air quality. In one home there were gaps and unsealed filters allowing bad moldy air from a terrible basement to travel throughout the rest of the home.
Hope this helps some DIY folks in creating a much better indoor air quality.
If you need professional testing please call me at (201) 486-7967 rates are very reasonable. If you are buying a home – get it evaluated for mold. Generally home inspection services highlight potential problems but that often miss a lot too.
